The First Uncorked Wine Auction is a Success

The first ever Uncorked wine auction was deemed a rousing success, as generous bidders and event sponsors banded together to raise over $180,000 to support young children and families in our community.

A capacity crowd of nearly 300 guests filled St. Innocent Winery and Zenith Vineyard as the auction sprang into life.

Presented by Holiday Retirement, the Uncorked wine auction kicked off with a festive wine tasting reception featuring seven stellar producers. Guest chefs from j. james, Loustic Catering, the Bistro at Wellspring and Roth’s Creative Catering wowed the crowd with tastes of their creative culinary concoctions. With a toe-tapping jazz combo to set the mood, bidders enjoyed brisk competition over 50 silent auction packages featuring rare wines, travel opportunities, sports events and other unique items.

Following the reception, guests migrated to the beautifully decked-out event hall for a fabulous gourmet dinner by Vibrant Table Catering and Events. Each course was paired with several wines hand-selected by winemakers, showcasing the best attributes of the food and the wines.

Portland area auctioneer Chris Sheik got the crowd into the giving spirit as he kicked off the evening’s live auction. Bidders energetically waved their paddles in the hopes of winning one of twenty exciting live auction packages. Highlights of the night included twelve bottles of vintage Bordeaux from the private cellar of Dr. William and Helen Nisbet, a week at a luxury Puerto Vallarta villa donated by Blue Pacific Vacation Rentals, and a first-class, all-inclusive trip for four couples to the 2009 Masters Tournament.

Midway through the live auction, Executive Director Sue Miller shared how vital it is to provide transportation for children from their home to our therapeutic classrooms. Without the busses provided by Family Building Blocks, most children at risk would be unable to access the life-changing services offered. In response, the audience raised their paddles, giving over $47,000 to fund this crucial need!

Board President Chris Casebeer wrapped up the live auction with a heartfelt thank you, and guests flocked outdoors for dancing with the Swingline Cubs, wine and port toasts, hand-rolled chocolate truffles and celebration.

This night would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, our donors and our community. On behalf of the hundreds of children we serve each year, we thank every individual and business that invested their time and resources in making this auction a success!
